Maruthamalai Lord Muruga Temple

Maruthamalai Temple latest view...
Very Beautiful..

Photos: Mohanraj Leo

The beautiful Marudamalai Temple in Coimbatore is a perfect place to seek divinity and treat yourself to an architectural delight. Devoted to Lord Murugan, its origin dates back to more than 1200 years ago. It is considered second to Arupadai Veedu temples in terms of religious importance for devotees.

A sneak peek into its history would tell you that
kongu vettuva gounder kings ruled this temple in its initial days. Located on a hilltop ( a part of Western Ghats), it offers you some spellbinding views of the adjoining lush landscape. The hilltop on which Marudamalai Temple is situated is known as Marudha Malai which means 'hill of vegetation' and is blessed with many medicinal herbs. Home to a particular section of Tamil tribal community, this picturesque hill is an attraction in itself.

Happy Diwali

The word Diwali is made of
two words; deep (lamp or diyas) & avali (row),
which means a line or a row of lamps. During the
festival of Diwali lamps are lit in every home,
office, etc. that is why this festival is also known
as the ‘Festival of Lights’. Diwali is also called
as Deepavali.
Diwali is celebrated on four consecutive
days – the thirteenth day (Dhanatrayodashi), the
fourteenth day (Narak chaturdashi) and the new
moon day (amavasya) [Lakshmipujan] of the dark
fortnight of Ashvin and the first day of the bright
fortnight of Kartik (Balipratipada). Some exclude
the thirteenth and consider only the remaining
three days as Diwali. Since Vasubaras and
Bhaubij respectively precede and follow Diwali,
they are included in it. However in reality they
are separate holy festivals.
Spiritual significance
During the four months preceding Diwali
(festival of lights), the Absolute fire principle
(Tej tattva) is almost absent in the atmosphere.
Due to this, the Demons (in the earlier Eras)
used to dominate and trouble the people. In
order to effectively counter the threats from
Demons, Diwali, a worship based on the Absolute
fire principle was celebrated. In other words,
Diwali stands for the destruction of the
distressing elements that dominate the
environment. Every day of Diwali represents the
conquest of good over evil, piousness over
immorality and virtue over vice.

Destroy Karuvelam Trees

Karuvelam Trees

Acacia Nilotica or Acacia Arabica is the
biological name for Karuvelam trees. Seemai
karuvelam was introduced in Tamil Nadu in the
60's as fuel wood to help the people reeling
under a drought situation.

Where will it grow?

This tree will grow in least water/water scarcity
areas like Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai,
pudukottai, virudunagar and kambam districts.
Several thousands of trees were found in and
around Madurai, Keezhmadurai tank, Vandiyur
and Karisalkulam tanks, Anthaneri, Vilangudi,
Kodikulam, Sellur and Anuppanadi.
Areas Affected
Seema karuvelam is found on 35 acres at Karmal
in Mudukulatur taluk.
There were 3,000 fully-grown 'karuvelam' trees in
Keelmadurai kanmoi, Vandiyur and Karisalkulam
tanks.
In Anthaneri and Vilangudi, there were 2,000
trees and in Kodikulam, Sellur and Anupanadi
there were 1,000 trees.
40,000 hectares were infested with these trees,
with roots running as deep as 70 to 80 feet and
spreading over 30 feet across.
Effects
Karuvelam tree absorbs as much as four litres of
water to produce one kg of biomass. The
species is also known to germinate very fast and
it spreads easily as a weed.
It never shelters birds because they produce less
oxygen but emits more carbon dioxide. It also
affects soil nutrients. It makes it surrounding
droughty.
If there is no rain it starts absorbing underground
water.
If there is no under ground water they absorb the
humidity(the amount of water vapour in the air)
from the air surrounding it. We never use these
trees' products, moreover its roots change the
ground water poisonous.

Solutions

Land owners should immediately take efforts to
remove 'karuvelam' trees grown on private lands.
karuvelam have been occupying acres and acres
of government land including irrigation tanks.
The plant shouldn’t be simply cut or cleared, but
should be carefully uprooted. Partially cut
Karuvelam plants can grow very fast and four
times thicker.
It is essential to cut these trees where ever we
see.
Legal Proceedings by Government
The Madras High Court bench has ordered
eradication of Seema Karuvelam trees from
Tamil Nadu.
The Madurai municipal corporation has banned
the raising of 'seemai karuvelam' trees on private
lands within the city limits.

Interesting Facts about Left Handers

A lot of research has been done to understand
if left handers are true geniuses. A left hander
is a person who uses his left hand for his
personal care, cooking and many more
activities. However, in some cases, left handers
use their right hand to write.
There are many causes that lead a person to
use his left side more than his right. Warriors
used their shields on the left to protect their
heart. Another theory is that being left hander
brings the surprise factor in combat as most of
the population is right handed.
According to one theory, exposure to high rates
of testosterone before birth can lead to left
handedness in the child. Stress during the birth
of the child is another cause. Studies show
that mothers who have ultrasounds more than
the normal can also cause the same.
As the number of left handers is quite low
compared to the right handers, they could be
at a disadvantage because the world is loaded
heavily in favour of right handers. Small things
like scissors are designed only for right
handers. In spite of these disadvantages, the
following reasons explain why left handers are
geniuses.
Better Memory
Studies show that the left handers have a
larger corpus callosum, which is what connects
the two hemispheres of the brain. This is the
region where all the memory storage takes
place. The basic problem with this type of
memory is that they might not remember
where they have left their keys but will just
know the dates of the Second World War.
Mathematical Ability
Though there are many contradictory studies,
most of the research shows that there is a
relationship between left hand genius and
higher mathematical ability. For these people, a
certain areas of knowledge is linked. Their
visual-spatial skills are also higher.
Intellectual Genius
There is a whole list of famous and intellectual
people who are left handers. Albert Einstein,
Isaac Newton, Marie Curie, Aristotle, Alan
Turing were left handers. Though not clear how
these geniuses are connected to left
handedness, but looks like it does.
Earnings
This is a quite a strange fact that the left
handed college educated men earn about 15
percent more than their colleagues who were
right handed. This fact applies for those who
were working together with the same education
and ranking. Apparently, this wage difference
does not apply to women. There is still more
research going on in this field.
More Creative
According to one theory, brain of left handers
works differently and hence, they are more
creative than the right handers. It has been
said that when you are using your left hand,
you are using the right side of the brain which
is used for creativity.

Don't Ever Think

A worried woman went to her gynecologist and
said:
'Doctor, I have a serious problem and desperately
need your help! My baby is not even 1 year old
and I'm pregnant again. I don't want kids so close
together.'
So the doctor said: 'Ok and what do you want me
to do?'
She said: 'I want you to end my pregnancy, and
I'm counting on your help with this.'
The doctor thought for a little, and after some
silence he said to the lady: 'I think I have a better
solution for your problem. It's less dangerous for
you too.'
She smiled, thinking that the doctor was going to
accept her request.
Then he continued: 'You see, in order for you not
to have to take care of 2 babies at the same time,
let's kill the one in your arms. This way, you could
rest some before the other one is born. If we're
going to kill one of them, it doesn't matter which
one it is. There would be no risk for your body if
you chose the one in your arms.'
The lady was horrified and said: 'No doctor! How
terrible! It's a crime to kill a child!'
'I agree', the doctor replied. 'But you seemed to
be OK with it, so I thought maybe that was the
best solution.'
The doctor smiled, realizing that he had made his
point.
He convinced the mom that there is no difference
in killing a child that's already been born and one
that's still in the womb. The crime is the same!
If you agree, please SHARE.
Together we can help save precious lives!

Do You Know

Inspirational Story Of APJ Abdul Kalam!!
▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼
There were about 70 scientists working on a very
hectic project. All of them were really frustrated
due to the pressure of work and the demands of
their boss but everyone was loyal to him and did
not think of quitting the job.
One day, one scientist came to his boss and told
him – Sir, I have promised to my children that I
will take them to the exhibition going on in our
township. So I want to leave the office at 5 30
pm. His boss replied “OK, You’re permitted to
leave the office early today”. The Scientist started
working. He continued his work after lunch. As
usual he got involved to such an extent that he
looked at his watch when he felt he was close to
completion. The time was 8.30 PM. Suddenly he
remembered of the promise he had given to his
children.
He looked for his boss, He was not there. Having
told him in the morning itself, he closed everything
and left for home.
Deep within himself, he was feeling guilty for
having disappointed his children. He reached
home. Children were not there. His wife alone
was sitting in the hall and reading magazines.
The situation was explosive, any talk would
boomerang on him. His wife asked him “Would
you like to have coffee or shall I straight away
serve dinner if you are hungry.
The man replied “If you would like to have coffee,
I too will have but what about Children ??” .Wife
replied “You don’t know?? , Your manager came
here at 5.15 PM and has taken the children to the
exhibition “.
What had really happened was …. The boss who
granted him permission was observing him
working seriously at 5.00 PM. He thought to
himself, this person will not leave the work, but if
he has promised his children they should enjoy the
visit to exhibition. So he took the lead in taking
them to exhibition The boss does not have to do it
every time. But once it is done, loyalty is
established.
That is why all the scientists at Thumba
continued to work under their boss even though
the stress was tremendous.
By the way, can you hazard a guess as to who
the boss was ?
He was none other than Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam .

Gita Saaram In English

"Whatever happened, it happened for good.
Whatever is happening, is also happening for good.
Whatever will happen, that too will be for good.
What have you lost for which you weep?
What did you bring with you, which you have lost?
What did you produce, which has perished?
You did not bring anything when you were born.
Whatever you have taken, it is taken from Here.
Whatever you have given, it is given Here.
You came empty handed and you will go the same
way.
Whatever is yours today, will be somebody else's
tomorrow
And it will be some others' later.
This change is the law of the universe
And the theme behind my creation."

Girl who leads...

Onion - Toxin Remover

1.) Onions are known to absorb toxins. In fact,
during the days of the Plague in England, folks
would keep chopped onions around to absorb
toxins and clean the air. This helped protect them,
against getting the plague.
NEVER SAVE AN ONION. It will absorb all the
toxins in the air of your refrigerator. Eat that and
you eat the toxins. Instead: Chop your left over
onion, put it on a plate and keep it in your kitchen
as a natural air purifier. I do this all the time! If
someone is ill, place a chopped onion on the night
stand, next to the bed. They'll be better in the
morning. I placed the remaining onion, next to
Evan last night.
Onions are toxin absorbers. Thus why they are
great internal mops for the body. Eat plenty of
onions!
2.) The onion and garlic families are anti-microbial
and anti-bacterial. Placing them on the bottom of
the foot gives them access to your internal organs
through meridians in your body. The onion can be
directly delivered. Trans-dermal delivery (on the
skin) is one of the best delivery mechanisms, as it
will bypass the stomach acids and go directly into
the blood. The bottom of the feet and the forearm
are great places to put high powered foods and
essential oils into the body. Sliced garlic on the
bottom of the feet will work nicely too.''

Mulla Tale..

A Sufi story about Mullah Nasruddin reveals the
definition of fate.
A man once approached Mulla Nasruddin with
a question, “What is fate?"
Mullah Nasruddin said, “Mere assumptions"
The man intrigued, asked, “Assumptions?!"
Mullah Nasruddin explained, “When you assume
things are going to do well and when they do
not, you term it as 'bad luck'. You assume that
things are not going to turn out to be good and
when they actually do, you call it good luck.
When you are deliberating as to whether
acertain thing is going to happen or not,
unsure of the future you say that the future is
unknow. When things happen unexpectedly
against you, you call it fate!"

not!

Super Star Always Mass.. This is Rajinimania..

Rajnikanth was bragging to Amitabh
Bachchan one day, “You know, I know everyone.
Just name someone, anyone, and I know them.
Tired of his boasting, Amitabh Bachchan called
his bluff, “OK, Rajni how about Tom Cruise?”
“Sure, yes, Tom and I are old friends, and I can
prove it” Rajni said.
So Rajni and Amitabh Bachchan fly out to
Hollywood and knock on Tom Cruise’s door, and
sure enough, Tom Cruise shouts : “Thalaiva!
Great to see you! You And your friends come
right in and join me for lunch!”
…Although impressed, Amitabh Bachchan is still
skeptical. After they leave Cruise’s house, he
tells Rajni that he thinks Rajni knowing Cruise
was Just lucky.
“No, no, just name anyone else” Rajni says
…”President Obama”, Amitabh Bachchan quickly
retorts
…”Yes”, Rajni says, “I know him.
And off they go. At the White House, Obama
spots Rajni on the tour and motions him,
saying, : “Rajni, what a surprise, I was just on my
way to a meeting, but you and your friend come
on in and let’s have a cup of coffee first and
catch up”.
Well, Amitabh Bachchan is much shaken by now,
but still not totally onvinced. After they leave the
White House grounds, he implores him to name
anyone else.
“The Pope,” Amitabh Bachchan replies
…”Sure!” says Rajni, “My folks are from Italy and
I’ve known the Pope a long time”.
Rajni and Amitabh Bachchan are assembled with
the masses in Vatican Square when Rajni says,
“This will never work. I can’t catch the Pope’s
eye among all these people. Tell you what, I
know all the guards so let me just go upstairs
and I’ll come out on the balcony with the Pope.”
And he disappears into the crowd headed toward
the Vatican.. Sure enough, half an hour later
Rajni emerges with the Pope on the balcony. But
by the time Rajni returns, he finds that Amitabh
Bachchan has had a heart attack and is
surrounded by paramedics.
Working his way to Amitabh Bachchan’s side,
Rajni asks him, “What happened?” Amitabh
Bachchan looks up and says,
“I was doing fine until u and the pope came out
on the balcony and the Italian man next to me
said, “Who’s that on the balcony with Rajni?”

Human Brain Capacity...

Optical illusion - Stars Disappearing

An optical illusion happens because the different
parts of the eye process images and colours at
different speeds, this sometimes means that
false images are sent to the brain. The brain
receives this information but actually, the eye
only sees some visual information at any given
time, and our brain processes this and fills in the
gaps to give the impression of continuous
movement.

Wonderful Coimbatore

Coimbatore is
498 kms from
Chennai. The
third largest
city of the
state,
Coimbatore
the
headquarters
of a district of
the same
name, is one
of the most
industrialised cities in Tamil Nadu. The city is
situated on the banks of the river Noyyal and is
known as the textile capital of South India or the
Manchester of the South. Coimbatore existed
even prior to the 2nd century AD as a small tribal
village capital called Kongunad until it was
brought under Chola control in the 2nd or 3rd
century AD by Karikalan, the first of the early
Cholas. Among its other great rulers were the
Rashtrakutas, Chalukyas, Pandyas, Hoysalas and
the Vijayanagara kings. When Kongunad fell to
the British along with the rest of the state, its
name was changed to Coimbatore and it is by
this name that it is known today, except in
Tamil, in which it is called Kovai.
Located in the shadow of the Western Ghats,
Coimbatore enjoys a very pleasant climate the
year round, aided by the fresh breeze that flows
in through the 25 kms long Palakkad gap. The
rich black soil of the region has contributed to
Coimbatore's flourishing agriculture industry and,
it is in fact that the successful growth of cotton
that served as a foundation for the establishment
of its famous textile industry. The first textile
mills came up around 1888 and there are now
over a hundred mills. The result has been a
strong economy and a reputation as one of the
greatest industrial cities in South India.
Coimbatore serves as an entry and exit point to
the neighbouring state of Kerala and the ever-
popular hill station of Udagamandalam (Ooty) in
Tamil Nadu. It is the disembarking point for
those who want to take the Mountain train that
runs from Mettupalayam to Ooty that is just 35
kms from Coimbatore. There are also regular bus
services from Coimbatore to Ooty.

Gold Jewels - Times of India Article

Almost all the customers who
buy gold jewellery get conned by the jewellery
shop owners in the city and the amount
fleeced from them ranges from Rs 2,500 to Rs
7,500 per 10 grams of the precious metal
purchased. Outgoing legal metrology controller
R P Thakur on Friday enlightened the public
about some of the several techniques adapted
by the gold sellers including leading jewellery
shops in Hyderabad to con the customers.
The main method adopted by the jewellers to
con people is selling low carat gold and
charging for high carat. "Gold jewellery can be
made only out of 22 carat gold while diamond
and other precious stones-studded gold
jewellery can be made only with 18 carat gold.
But it is a common practice among jewellers to
charge customers the price of 24 carat gold.
By doing so, a jeweller gains an additional
profit ranging from Rs 2,500 to 7,500 per every
10 grams. This fraud is prevalent mostly in
diamond and other precious stones-studded
jewellery sales," Thakur said. According to
legal metrology officials, by using a simple
formula, one can calculate the gold price for
each purity level easily. If 10 grams of gold
with 24 carat purity is priced at 30,000, a
customer can use a simple formula
(22/24x30,000 = Rs 27,500) to calculate the 22
carat gold price while that of 18 carat gold
would be 18/24x30,000 = Rs 22,500. Thus
those buying gold studded with diamond or
other precious stones are being gypped of Rs
7,500 for every 10 grams of gold purchased as
they pay for 24 carat gold while what they get
is 18 carat gold.
A second major method of the jewelers
conning the customers is by charging heavily
for wastage. While making an ornament, some
quantity of gold gets wasted and while selling
an ornament, jewelers recover that cost from
the customers. In jewelry purchase receipts, a
customer can clearly see the wastage and
making charges. As per government rules, for
studded jewelry (both gold and platinum) the
wastage claimed by jeweler cannot exceed 9 %
of the net weight of the metal and for non-
studded designer jewelry, it cannot exceed
3.5%. For coins, biscuits and medallions, the
wastage cannot be claimed beyond 1.25% .
"But it has been observed that several jewelers
including the very popular ones have been
claiming wastage charges ranging from 15 to
25%. That means jewelers are making
additional profit of lakhs of rupees each day
illegally," said a senior legal metrology official.
A third method of conning is in the billing. As
per rules, the receipt should contain the gross
weight (weight of the ornament) of the item
purchased, and the net weight (weight of gold
used in the ornament). However, the jewelers
state the gross weight against the net weight
column because of which the customer is kept
in the dark as to the actual amount of gold
used in making the ornament.
Yet another method of conning is while selling
studded jewelry, the merchant does not deduct
the stone weight from the gross weight of the
ornament. By doing so, he charges the
customer the gold price for the entire
ornament while in reality, he has to deduct the
weight of the stones used.
It was also observed that despite having clear
cut rules to use weighing scales of 1 mg
accuracy, only 60 per cent of the jewelers in
the state are using them. The remaining
jewelers continue to use 10 mg accuracy
scales where the permissible error is high.
In case of noticing any such malpractices at a
jewelry store, the legal metrology controller has
advised the customers to immediately lodge a
complaint with the legal metrology sleuths by
sending an SMS at 9490165619 or by calling at
18604253333 or by sending an email to

True Words... Ganesha Saranam

Ganesha ~ the elephant God ~ is a child of Shiva , the Supreme Being, and Parvati his wife. Also called Ganapati, Ganesha is one of the most popular Hindu Gods. His name means Lord of the Ganas, who were dwarf followers of Shiva. Lord Ganesha represents the call to spiritual power ~ he has been prayed to, worshipped and adored in one form or another since time began, as it is said that time began with his creation.
Ganesha's mother Parvati found him in her hand while wiping perspiration from her body after bathing. Indeed Ganesha was born with a corpulent body, said to contain within it all the matter of the universe. Soon after his birth he acquired his famous elephant head when the god Saturn ~ symbol of obstacles, difficulties, and delays ~ came to salute the newborn child. Saturn's powerful, fatal glance immediately reduced the head of the baby Ganesh to ashes.
At once Vishnu, God of Love, set forth to look for another head, and returned with the head of Indra's elephant Airavata. The elephant head was placed without further ado on the shoulders of the young Ganesha. From then on Ganesha came to be called Vighnesa, who removes fear from the minds, or Lord of Obstacles, whose purpose is to help his worshippers surmount every difficulty. He is a jolly, good-natured god.
In his hand Ganesha wields a noose and goad, and he holds a bowl of sweets. With the noose Ganesh can hold you close or capture and confine both blessings and obstacles. With the goad, Ganesha can strike and repel obstacles from you. Ganesha removes obstacles but he can also put them in your way to prevent you from going down the wrong path.
Ganesha's four arms stand for his immense power in helping Humanity. Lord Ganesh is the Single-Tusk One, patron of literature, who tore off one of his tusks to scribe the great epic Mahabharata. Through this action Ganapati teaches us that knowledge and dharma are of utmost importance worth sacrificing even pride and beauty to attain.
If you look at statues and imagery of Ganesha, there is frequently a tiny little rat (or mouse) at his feet, Mooshika , representing the worldly desires that need to be overcome. This being is known as Ganesh's "Vahana" or vehicle, and was basically used as a mode of transport after having been tamed by Ganesh. It is said that the contradiction between the heaviness of the elephant and the lightness of the rat is an illustration of Ganesh’s role as one who brings about unity and harmony, and this is further demonstrated by the fact that Ganesh was able to tame a creature considered to be vermin.
Ganesh resides on the mental plane. He sits contentedly upon the muladhara (first) chakra and reigns over it. Ganesh is the deity of the instinctive mind and of the intellectual mind, science, and knowledge ~ making him the Lord of Categories. He organizes and clears the mind so that awareness may flow into it. Ganesh is also the Giver of Success, and is associated with general abundance in life. Among all the wonderful Hindu deities, Shri Ganesha is closest to the material plane of consciousness and most able to assist us in our day to day life concerns.
Sounds like a useful God to have on your side! How can you reach Ganesh and get his assistance? Very simple. To contact Lord Ganesh, hold his form steady in your mind with eyes closed. Now you can talk to him. He will listen, but not speak back. You simply must put all of your questions and problems at his feet and then open your eyes. Ganesha answers you not in words but by his influencing events and decisions slowly and in unseen ways. Situations will change for you and doors will open through your prayers to him.
Ganesh enjoys adulation through constant repetition of his name. It is beneficial to purchase a statue of Ganesha and surround him with incense, flowers, and sweets. He especially adores chocolates. Above all, worship him often to remove the obstacles in your life.
The following is an invocation and prayer of supplication to Ganesh:
Om Sri Ganesha Namaha - Great Lord of Wisdom,
Here I stand with so many decisions to make,
with so many ways to turn.
I beg your Grace.
Please fill me with righteous judgment and clear discrimination
as I lay all confusion at your feet and immerse myself solely in Your Being.

Om Ganesha Saranam.
Ganesha Chaturthi ~ the 10-day festival in honor of Ganesh's birthday ~ is celebrated in August / September (the date is variable, as it is based on the lunar calendar). Ganesh is said to bestow his blessing on all participants for the duration of the event.
The Ganesha Chaturthi is an opportunity for rejoicings and parades where statues of Ganesh are exhibited in all localities where the festival is observed. The most famous of these festivities occurs in Mumbai.

Dedicating to Lord Ganesha...

We do prayers
before beginning any
vedic ritual. In fact Ganapati Dyanam could be
done before we do any activity . It could be done
before we start our work, before we begin
exercises, before we go to sleep.
Ganapati Dyanam is interpreted as prayers to
Lord Ganapati or Lord Vigneswara . While there
is nothing wrong in viewing Ganapati Dyanam as
a prayer , the real meaning of Ganapati Dyanam
is NOT that .
In Ganapati Dyanam we stimulate our brain and
invoke our concentration to perform our work.
We invoke mental peace to perform our actions .
Ganapati Dyanam - The Mantra part
Shuklam bhaRtram Vishnum Sasi Varnam
ChathurBhujam ,
Prasanna Vadanam Dyayeth Sarva Vigna Upa
Santhaye .
Shuklam - Spotless , Pure
bhaRtram - Preserving, Protecting
Vishnum – Ever working
Sasi Varnam - Reflecting ( Moon colored)
Chatur Bhujam - Four Lobed , Four sided
Prasanna Vadanam – Pleasantly Expressed
Dyayeth - Thoughts
Sarva Vigna – In all actions
Upa Santhaye – Invoke peace
The meaning of above is " With Pure ,
Conscience Carrying , Ever working , Reflecting ,
four lobes, pleasantly expressing thoughts , I
Invoke peace in all my actions "
