There is a gray button that takes photos on Android phones, and one that takes photos on iOS devices.

Eating with hands has its own benefits. It is not just the health benefits we are talking about. The experience of food is changed when you eat with your hands. Eating with hands is a tradition in India. No matter how sophisticated one is, Indians always prefer to eat with their hands.
There are basically two philosophies that run parallel when it comes to eating with your hands. Firstly, food is not an object; it is an experience. If you can put the food in your mouth, then what is all the hassle about touching it with your fingers.
The experience of eating is enhanced when you eat with your bare hands. Your first connection with food is through your nostrils when you smell the food. The next contact with food should be with your fingers when you take the food and put it into your mouth. Then comes the element of taste. According to Indian philosophy, the experience of eating is enhanced when you eat with your fingers.
The second philosophy is prevalent in God's own country, Kerala. Eating with your hands is a must in Kerala and it is also compulsory to serve the food on banana leaves. The Vedic sages of Kerala believed that the hands are extensions of the 5 basic elements of nature. The 5 fingers of the hand are the 5 different natural elements.
The thumb represents 'fire', the forefinger represents 'air', the middle finger represents 'space', the ring finger represents 'earth' and the little finger represents 'water'. All matter is composed of these 5 elements of nature.
The food we eat also has these 5 elements as do the bodies we inhibit. That is why people eat with their hands in Kerala in specific and India in general. It helps them feel connected with the food and the universe at large around them.
Mona Lisa is perhaps the most popular and talked about art piece in the world. Painted by the most celebrated painter, Leonardo Da Vinci, this painting has been a matter of interest for many. Everything about the painting has been a source of debate for centuries. The enigmatic facial expression of the woman in the painting is still an unresolved mystery.
Writer Dan Brown's novel, the Da Vinci Code brought a renewed interest among people for the celebrated painting. People flocked in huge numbers to its home, the Louvre museum of Paris to find out about the hidden codes described in the novel. Apart from the novel, the painting is famous for many other reasons. Firstly, it is immensely famous because of the popularity of Leonardo Da Vinci and his works on human anatomy. Secondly, the painting is famous for the techniques used by the artist and most importantly Mona Lisa is famous for being stolen from the museum!
Most of you may have heard about these known facts about Mona Lisa. But we will disclose some less known and interesting facts about this mysterious painting. Take a look at these 7 interesting facts about Mona Lisa:
* The name of the painting, Mona Lisa was the result of a spelling error! The original name of the painting was Monna Lisa. Monna in Italian is a short form of Madonna, meaning 'My Lady'.
* The identity of the woman in the painting is still a mystery. Some believe that it is the female form of Leonardo Da Vinci himself. Most popular belief is that the woman was Lisa Gherardini, who was 24-years-old and a mother of two sons.
* The painting has an imperfection. In 1956, a man named Ugo Ungaza threw a stone at the painting. This resulted in a small patch of damaged paint next to her left elbow.
* The painting is considered priceless and so it cannot be insured.
* Another interesting fact about the painting is that the woman in the painting has no eyebrows. It is rumoured that it is because when the authorities were trying to restore the painting, the eyebrows got accidentally removed. However, some people believe that Leonardo Da Vinci never completed the painting because he was a consummate perfectionist.
* The painting in the Louvre has a room of its own. It is protected in a climate controlled environment and encased in bullet proof glass. The room was built exclusively for the painting and it cost the museum over seven million dollars!
* Studies have shown that there are three different layers painted before the present version of the painting. One version has her hands clutching her arm instead of the chair in front of her.
In spite of any kind of imperfections discovered in the painting, this Renaissance art work is revered all around the world as one of the greatest masterpiece of all times.

Ever wondered what the difference between carat and karat when buying jewellery. Many individuals would have ignored understanding the difference between carat and karat, though, one must admit that it is of some relevance.
Both the words are used as unit of measurement in jewellery. However, both are pronounced in same way even when they are spelled differently.
Both the terms are very different when it comes to measurement in jewellery. Now, let us understand what is karat and carat and what is the difference between them.
Karat
Karat is a type of measurement used in measuring gold purity and 24 karat is the purest form of gold. Gold which is a soft metal is mixed with other metals, like copper or silver, to form an alloy such as 22 karat and 18 karat so that it can be used to make jewellery.
In India, 22 karat is more preferred when it comes to jewellery and 24 karat when buying coins and bars. Whereas in other countries, 18 karat gold is available. Gold which falls below 10 karat is not considered as gold.
In counties like United States karat is written as "K." In other countries, "karat" is also written as a "C."
Carat
A carat is a unit of mass used for measuring weight for diamonds or other gemstones. While, one carat is equal to 200 milligrams, which implies that carat is one-fifth of a gram or 200 mg.
It is important to note that small weighing diamonds are ususally expressed in terms of points, not carats, where 100 points = 1 carat.
Say for example, a carat if divided into 100 points. If a diamond is half a carat, then it is called a 50 pointer.
Usually, diamonds are engraved in 18k gold as it is hardened by adding other metals.
Carats usually are denoted as "Ct". We can say that a ring is having a 1 Ct.
However, in many countries "karat and "carat" are used almost used interchangeably.

"Worship at Sri Brahmapureeswarar Temple at
Tirupattur will be the Turning Point in your lives."
The Brahmapureeswarar Temple is a Hindu
Temple located in Thirupattur near Trichy, India .
Worshippers believe that a person can change his fate by seeking the blessings of Lord Brahma at Sri Brahmapureeswarar Temple, Tirupattur. Contrary to general impression, there is more than one Lord Brahma temple in India.
History
Mythological references recount Lord Brahma’s overwhelming pride as the Creator of the Universe. Lord Brahma felt that He was more prevailing than Lord Shiva – since He had the supremacy of creation.
This sense of pride provoked Lord Shiva, who destroyed Lord Brahma’s Fifth Head, and also cursed Him that He would lose His power of creation.
To relieve himself of this curse, Lord Brahma started out on a pilgrimage of Lord Shiva Temples.
During the course of His pilgrimage, Lord Brahma also visited this temple and installed 12 Shiva Lingams around Brahmapureeswarar and worshipped Lord Shiva here for a considerable time.
Being moved by Lord Brahma's prayers, Lord Shiva, on Devi Parvathi’s appeal, gave him Darshan under the Magizha tree and liberated Him from His curse. Lord Shiva also restored the power and responsibility of creation to Lord Brahma.
Lord Shiva also blessed Lord Brahma that He would have a separate shrine at this temple. He also advised Lord Brahma that since Brahma himself had His destiny rewritten here; He should rewrite the destiny of His devotees visiting this temple.
Since the fate of Lord Brahma, the Creator, Himself was changed by Lord Shiva at Tirupattur, one can expect a turning point in life by praying at this temple.
The temple is under the administration of The Hindu Religious And Charitable Endowments Department , Government of Tamil Nadu.
Shrines in the Complex
The presiding deities are Lord Brahmapureeswarar in the form of Swayambu
Lingam and Devi Brahma Sampath Gowri. There is a separate shrine for Lord Brahma. The idol of Lord Brahma is in meditative pose sitting in
Padmasana on a lotus. The temple complex also has the Jeeva Samadhi of Yogi Patanjali, the author of Yoga Sutras .
The 12 Shrines of Lord Shiva
There are 12 Shiv Lingams in the Temple complex, which includes the garden adjacent to the temple. These Shiva Lingams were installed and worshipped by Lord Brahma.
Most of these Shiv Lingams are housed in separate shrines, which are situated around the Brahma Theertham.
Brahma Theertham is the pond from which Lord Brahma took water for performing puja to Lord Shiva.
These 12 shrines of Lord Shiva which comprise the Bramhapureeswarar Temple complex are :

If you’ve been looking for the perfect opportunity to freak out your co-workers, look no further than the new Chairless Chair that makes it look like you’re sitting on thin air. Created by Zurich-based startup noonee , the Chairless Chair is essentially a pair of bionic pants you can wear all the time, lock in place and lean on when you need the support. The pants use a hip harness that directs your weight onto the heels of your shoes when locked, but lets you move freely and even run while wearing them when unlocked. Simply move into your desired position and power on the device to lock using a single six-volt battery that can last up to 24 hours.
“The idea came from wanting to sit anywhere and everywhere, and from working in a UK packaging factory when I was 17,” 29-year-old noonee CEO and co-founder, Keith Gunura told CNN . “Standing for hours on end causes a lot of distress on the lower limbs, but most workers get very few breaks and chairs are rarely provided because they take up too much space. So I thought that the best idea was to strap an unobtrusive chair directly to myself.”
“In addition to resting your leg muscles, it also provides optimal posture,” noonee CTO and co-founder Bryan Anastisiades told CNN. “It keeps your back straight and can reduce the occurrence of bad posters [sic] for both healthy workers and those recovering from muscle related injuries.”
Sitting all day is really bad for you but standing for long periods is also not great, so the Chairless Chair is a welcome solution to this problem.

Bermuda Triangle is the greatest unsolved mystery of the modern age. Also called Devil's Triangle.
It is a triangular shaped area in the North Atlantic Ocean, from Bermuda Island to Miami, USA and Puerto Rico. Hundreds of people and numerous boats, ships and planes have disappeared inside this triangle.
Reasons given for these disappearances vary from scientific to sheer myth. Here are 10 Shocking facts about Bermuda Triangle :
* The Bermuda Triangle is not small. In fact, it is quite large and covers an area of 440,000 miles of sea. This is larger than the combined area of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh & Maharashtra.
* The triangle is certainly not fixed and its effect can be experienced outside of the triangle too.
* The disappearances are ascribed to UFO's and alien activity, city of Atlantis lost under the triangle, and various other technical, natural and geographical reasons.
* Whenever any plane or ship disappears in the Triangle, its debris cannot be found. The reason behind this is that Gulf Stream runs near the triangle, which quickly gets rid of the debris.
* At least 1000 lives are lost within the last 100 years. On average, 4 aircraft and 20 yachts go missing every year.
* Inside the Bermuda Triangle, US Government has AUTEC (for Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center), which is located on the Andros Island of Bahamas. Here US Navy tests their submarines, sonar and other weapons. However many are of the view that it is more than just the testing center.
* People have experienced electronic fog in the triangle, which can be a Time Travel Tunnel too. Pilot Bruce Gernon claims he lost 28 minutes after flying through a time-warping cloud tunnel. The plane went missing from radars, only to re-emerge in Miami Beach. (Source: The Fog by Bruce Gernon.)
* One of the biggest and famous losses of US Military occurred in 1945. Five US Navy Avenger torpedo bombers flew from Fort Lauderdale, Florida for a sortie to the island of Bimini. The mission had 14 men. After about 90 minutes, the radio operators received a signal that the compass was not working. After that the communication was lost. The bombers were never found. The three planes that went for their rescue also disappeared.
* The first person to report about Bermuda Triangle was Christopher Columbus. He wrote in his journals that inside the triangle, the ship's compass stopped working and he also saw a fireball in the sky.
* Bermuda Triangle is one of the rare places on earth where the compass does not point towards Magnetic North. Instead of that, it point towards true north, which creates confusion and that's why so many ships and planes lost its course in the triangle
The sun has been the inspiration for hundreds of songs, but now scientists have discovered that the star at the centre of our solar system produces its own music.
Astronomers at the University of Sheffield have managed to record for the first time the eerie musical harmonies produced by the magnetic field in the outer atmosphere of the sun.
They found that huge magnetic loops that have been observed coiling away from the outer layer of the sun's atmosphere, known as coronal loops, vibrate like strings on a musical instrument.
In other cases they behave more like soundwaves as they travel through a wind instrument.
Using satellite images of these loops, which can be over 60,000 miles long, the scientists were able to recreate the sound by turning the visible vibrations into noises and speeding up the frequency so it is audible to the human ear.
Professor Robertus von Fáy-Siebenbürgen, head of the solar physics research group at Sheffield University, said: "It was strangely beautiful and exciting to hear these noises for the first time from such a large and powerful source.

Sardines provide plenty of essential nutrients, earning them a place in a "Diabetes Forecast" list of five superfoods you should be eating. These nutritional powerhouses may have a bit of a bad reputation due to their strong taste and smell, but if you get past this, you'll be able to reap the potential health benefits of these small fish. One way to do this is to include sardines in pasta sauces and stews, where they will add to the flavor without being overpowering.
Macronutrients
Each 3.75-ounce can of sardines packed in oil provides you with 191 calories, 22.7 grams of protein and 10.5 grams of fat, including only 1.4 grams of saturated fat. This is 16 percent of the daily value for fat, 7 percent of the DV for saturated fat and 45 percent of the DV for protein.
Vitamins
Sardines provide 12 percent of the DV for riboflavin, 24 percent of the DV for niacin, 137 percent of the DV for vitamin B-12 and 45 percent of the DV for vitamin D in each 3.85-ounce can. Riboflavin may help prevent cataracts and migraines, and niacin may lower your risk for Alzheimer's disease and improve arthritis symptoms, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. The Linus Pauling Institute notes that getting sufficient amounts of vitamin B-12 may help lower your risk for heart disease and cancer, and consuming enough vitamin D may make you less likely to develop arthritis or cancer.
Minerals
These little fish are also filled with minerals. Each can of sardines contains 35 percent of the DV for calcium, 15 percent of the DV for iron, 45 percent of the DV for phosphorus and 10 percent of the DV for potassium. You need calcium for strong bones and proper nerve and muscle function, iron is important for forming red blood cells and carrying oxygen where the body needs it. Phosphorus plays a role in forming DNA and storing energy. Potassium can help counteract the blood pressure-raising effects of sodium, potentially lowering your risk for heart disease.
Omega-3 Fats
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recommends that you get an average of 500 milligrams of a combination of EPA and DHA each day. These essential omega-3 fats may decrease your heart disease risk. Just 3 ounces of sardines provides 835 milligrams of omega-3 fats, meeting your needs for the day and then some.
Considerations
As with all fish, sardines may be contaminated with mercury, to some extent. However, sardines are among those fish that typically contain the lowest amounts of mercury, making them safe enough that even pregnant women can eat up to 12 ounces per week, according to the American Pregnancy Association.

After a long time Goundamani returns back to movies through the film 49o.The audio launch of the movie was held in Chennai. Satyaraj and Shivakarthikeyan were the guests to launch the audio cd and goundamani received it.
Goundamani appearing for an audio launch in his carrier this is for the first time. So huge rush of fans were there. After celebrities had their speech Goundamani came to the stage to give his speech in the midst of large roar of applause.
Few lines of his speech is below..
"After Satyaraj and Shivakarthikeyan's speech there are no words for me to speak. I feel happy for both of your presence. Many people used to bribe and blabber to get a Doctorate for themselves. But here the Producer of the movie had given me Doctorate without asking.
I told the director to tell the one line from middle of the story. I was happy to hear the oneline based on agriculture and the gutt feeling to make a movie in this genre by this time where masala movies and kuthu dancer are popular.
I really thank the other artists acted in this film. The lyricist had penned the whole story and real life tragedy in two lines itself...Without Agriculture there is no life nothing..
In his speech he continues saying "To a farmer his land should be the most important thing. Land is his body and soul. At any cost he should not sell his land or leave agriculture. If he is not able to get profit one year, try again to get profit the another year.
Only Real Estate Promoters, Corporate Companies and Industrialists are visiting farmers nowadays to buy his land and to build buildings. If they sell those lands and buildings were built, where will they do agriculture and what is there for all to eat in the future.
This movie is not only for Indian farmers but also for all farmers throughout the world. This movie is not only for A, B,or C centre audiences but for all from a to z centres".
The highlight is that at the end of his speech he stated in English that "49 0 This is the best movie" repeatedly thrice or more in his different voice modulations from low pitch to high pitch (remembering of that HO GAYA HO GAYA HO MANCHU HO MANCHU of lower pitch to OHHH GAYYA OHHH GAYYA of higher pitch...forgot the movie ..but Goundamani sirs dialogue unforgettable) . There was great applause hearing his modulation comedy...
Gounder is Back and Gounder rocks..
This is what happens when you trust others, especially strangers, with the safety of your child. Well! You might say what wrong could happen in a busy mall when you are not far away from your child. If you think so then you are horribly wrong.
Kids visiting malls love to take joy rides on toy car or other battery operated vehicles. Many times, these toy vehicles are kept inside the mall. Because of space constraints, operators of these vehicles take your child for a short round inside the mall, not far away from you. But while taking turns or completing one round, for few seconds your child is not visible to you. But you keep waiting thinking everything is fine.
During these moments, some perverts could easily sexually harm your child and leave a lasting scar on the mind of the child.
According to a video report in The Logical Indian, the person in-charge of the joy ride can be seen forcibly smooching the child when his parents are not able to see him. Despite his best efforts, the boy is not able to fend off the man.
The video was uploaded by Dishha Sharma who wants to alert the parents about these sexual perverts lurking in our cities, claims The Logical Indian.
We are not able to identify the mall where this crime allegedly took place. We are not sure if this incident was reported to the mall authorities or not.
Maybe this pervert is still at large, and our children are at risk.

Vijay Tv's Kalakka Povathu Yaaru (KPY) was one of the best shows to most of the people who have watched it all the seasons.
But time changes, now its been the most irritating show ever due to their judges.
In all the previous seasons the judges of this show were legendary actors like S.Ve.Sekhar, Pandiyaraj, Chinni Jayanth, S.S.Chandran,and multi talented lady Uma Riyaz Khan. Even these legendary actors have never demotivated or insulted any of the contestants.They even never uttered a harsh word towards them.
But what is happening now...the present season judges are very bad. They just demotivate and insult young or fresh talents before huge number of people. And they are telecasting that too without any cut.
How are they able to do so? All these judges were also fresh talent once. Do they forgot all? If they got a judge like them..will they be seated in a judge's place now?
Only Sethu is the best person to be in judge panel. Others all are unfit...If you can't encourage young talent then just leave that place. Dont do such idiotic things and over react to hike the Trp of your show.
It never strikes up your Trp ratings, but you go down on the heart of your viewers, who still tolerates everything you show it in your channels in the name of serials and reality shows and still have the hope and watches Vijay Tv that it will return to its form again and create mass.
Sugar has been repeatedly demonized by some health experts as if it were the monolithic cause of insulin resistance and obesity.
There’s always something wrong with generalizations such as this as it is an unfair act to lynch the good with the bad. Not all sugars are evil, the same way that not all saturated fats are bad .
If we were never never meant to eat sweet foods then our tongue should have been devoid of taste receptors for sweetness. Sugar consumption (depending on the type and amount consumed) isn’t the only dietary factor to consider in determining the cause of diseases such as diabetes. A diet high in fat can cause hyperglycemia . In addition to fat, dairy has also been implicated in the development of diabetes.
IT’S THE QUALITY AND QUANTITY THAT MATTER
The real problem is ingesting large amounts of the wrong kind of sugar. The average American consumes a whopping 22 teaspoons of sugar a day in the form of refined sugar. This wouldn’t be a scary amount if regular table sugar can make people slim and smart. Unfortunately it does just the opposite .
The best source of whole sugar will always be fresh fruit. Fruits are rich in water, which dilutes the sugar. They are also high in fiber, which slows down the release of fructose in the bloodstream. Fresh fruit is also loaded with nutrients that are essential to health and healing.
THE BENEFITS OF ORGANIC CANE SUGAR
When it comes to added sugars, which ones are okay?
In terms of availability, versatility, convenience, texture, price, eco-friendliness, and nutrition the best substitute for the ubiquitous white sugar is perhaps organic cane sugar. Organic cane sugar is unrefined sugar minus the cancer-causing and environmentally damaging pesticides present in conventionally grown sugarcane. Compared to white sugar, organic cane sugar has the full-bodied taste of sugarcane and is much less processed, retaining a lot of the nutrients present in cane juice. Unrefined cane sugar contains 17 amino acids, 11 minerals, and 6 vitamins , including antioxidants that may help reverse oxidative damage. It is made up of sucrose, fructose, and glucose. Table sugar is just sucrose and calories, plus traces of chemicals utilized in the refining process such as lime, sulphur dioxide, and phosphoric acid . Organic cane sugar is not like brown sugar, which is white sugar with molasses thrown back in.
The light color of organic cane sugar is comparable to turbinado or “raw” sugar, a sign that it is less processed compared to other wholesome sweeteners such as muscovado and molasses. The closer the color of the sweetener to fresh sugarcane juice the better.
Even good sugars should be consumed within healthy limits. While organic cane sugar is much better than white and brown sugar it would be a very prudent move to consume it in conservative amounts. The American Heart Association recommends that men do not exceed their daily limit of 9 teaspoons (about 150 calories) of extrinsic sugar. Women on the other hand should not consume more than 6 teaspoons (100 calories) of added sugar a day.
BAD SUGARS ARE DISEASE MAGNETS
The following sweeteners, ironically and figuratively, leave a bad taste in the mouth with all their ill effects on health and quality of life.
White sugar or table sugar is made by stripping the nutrients and color of the sugarcane plant through a several-step refining process.Think of it as the emaciated offspring of sugarcane. It offers no substantial health benefits because all the wholesome stuff has been thrown out during its production.
Table sugar increases type 2 diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease risks . High intake of refined white sugar can also lead to the following conditions:
* tooth decay
* gout
* immunosuppression
* inflammation
* pancreatic damage
* multiple sclerosis
* vision problems
* osteoporosis
* hyperactivity
* hypertension
* hypercholesterolemia
* nutritional deficiencies
* cancer
* kidney problems
* depression
* schizophrenia
HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP
High fructose corn syrup is perhaps neck-and-neck with refined white sugar, as both are notorious for being empty calories, or calories that do not confer any nutritional benefit to the consumer.

There have been number of accounts in which Thala Ajith has been credited with helping many who seek his help at desperate times. Recently, we had reported about one such incident where the Yennai Arindhaal actor presented a wheel chair to a differently abled person.
Now, the latest that's been doing the rounds in many social media platforms is about the actor's generosity that saved the life of a cancer stricken girl, three years ago.
It is said that Ajith handed over 25 lakh rupees to the little girl's father when he came to know about her condition and her father's poverty, which had landed him in the soup, as he was unable to bear his child's medical expenses.
Since Ajith is someone who doesn't believe in advertising and spreading the word about his good deeds, this news never made it to headlines back then, it is said.
It remained a secret until recently before the girl's father decided to speak up about the incident. It is said that the person who received the sum of 25 lakh rupees is now well placed and should Ajith say yes, he is even ready to give up his entire fortune by transferring them to Ajith's name.
The Hindu god Shiva in his form as the cosmic dancer, represented in metal or stone in many
Shaivite temples, particularly in South India.
In the most common type of image, Shiva is shown with four arms and flying locks dancing on the figure of a dwarf, who is sometimes identified as Apasmara (a symbol of human ignorance; apasmara means “forgetfulness” or “heedlessness”). Shiva’s back right hand holds the damaru (hourglass-shaped drum); the front right hand is in the abhaya mudra (the “fear-not” gesture, made by holding the palm outward with fingers pointing up); the back left hand carries Agni (fire) in a vessel or in the palm of the hand; and the front left hand is held across his chest in the gajahasta (elephant-trunk) pose, with wrist limp and fingers pointed downward toward the uplifted left foot. The locks of Shiva’s hair stand out in several strands interspersed with flowers, a skull, a crescent moon, and the figure of Ganga (the Ganges River personified as a goddess). His figure is encircled by a ring of flames, the
prabhamandala. In classic Sanskrit treatises on dance, this form, the most common representation of Nataraja, is called the
bhujungatrasa (“trembling of the snake”).
In the Nataraja sculpture, Shiva is shown as the source of all movement within the cosmos and as the god whose doomsday dance, represented by the arch of flames, accompanies the dissolution of the universe at the end of an eon. His dance of creation is said to have been performed in Chidambaram (an important Shaiva centre in South India), a place that is identified with both the centre of the universe and the human heart. The gestures of the dance represent Shiva’s five activities (panchakritya): creation (symbolized by the drum), protection (by the “fear-not” pose of the hand), destruction (by the fire), embodiment (by the foot planted on the ground), and release (by the foot held aloft).
Other dances of Shiva seen in sculpture and painting are the wild tandava , which he performs on cremation grounds in the company of his consort Devi, and the graceful lasya , an evening dance performed on Mount Kailas before the assembly of gods, some of whom accompany him on various instruments.

The story behind this cake is quite interesting, though no proof about the authenticity of this tale has been found in my search. The story is about Juan, a French lady who awaits the return of her love who is fighting in the second world war, far away from home. On the first day of her wait she bakes a delicious strawberry cake for him. However he does not return that day. On the second day she bakes a pista cake, only to be disappointed again. She joined the cakes together with some whipped cream. Her wait continued into the third day when she made an orange cake. He still did not come. She went to bed disappointed that night. Next morning her love arrived bearing a gift of good chocolates for his lady. She combined all the cakes she baked with cream. She then melted the chocolate and poured it over the cake, and then served it to her loved one. They ate it together in celebration of his return and their never ending love.
Manjadikuru refers the bright red seeds found very commonly in ancestral homes in Kerala. They are collected by kids for their color, but are not used in food preparations. Many consider them a useless plant, as neither it’s fruit/seeds nor flower is edible.
Manjadikuru/Lucky Red Seeds are found in Krishna temples in Kerala. In fact nowadays, that is the only place we see them. The origin of this practice lies in the folklore of the Guruvayur temple. The temple of Guruvayur houses the deity of Vishnu*, and this particular idol is believed to have been worshipped by Lord Krishna** in Dwaraka. The first time I set eyes on Manjadikuru is in this temple.
A long time ago, there lived a woman in a northern province of Kerala. She was an ardent devotee of Krishna and aspired to someday visit the temple in Guruvayur. She wanted to carry offerings to the temple as most people did but she was too poor to be able to afford anything. But she knew of an old tree that shed beautiful glossy red seeds.
Fascinated by their beauty she began to collect them, hoping to one day carry them with her to the temple as a gift to the Lord. One by one she would pick them from the ground, treating each one like a precious gem. Polishing them and keeping them safe from the rain and the dust. In her eyes each of them glowed with warmth and radiance. She eagerly awaited the day when the Lord would see them. Others laughed at her and called her mad to pick the worthless seeds but she continued to do what she believed in.
Over a year the collection was built up and she had a large pouch full of Manjadikuru. Her eyes filled with glee as she held them close to her while she slept at night. Making up her mind to take them to the temple, she set out on a journey. Leaving the safety of her home and her loved ones, she set out on foot towards the temple. Her home was in a hilly province and she had to traverse rivers and deep forests as she moved towards her destination. She met people on the way. Some of them discouraged her. Some of them applauded her. But she didn’t care. Her mind was set on the temple and its deity and with single-minded focus she trudged on. Many people told her “this is not the way” but she followed her instinct and a force within her guided her ahead.
Every morning she would wake up with stiff joints, through the day her body would ache and at night she would collapse on the wayside in a tired stupor. In her mind she was aware that she may never be able to do this again in her life but in her eyes was a dream and on her lips was a smile. Forty four daunting days later, she arrives in the temple city of Guruvayur. Unfamiliar and tired she stumbles through the streets, forcing her body to make the last mile too.
Finally she arrives at the temple portals. She hears people talk amongst themselves about the special day at the temple. Apparently the day was the first of that month and the local ruler or Naduvaazhi would visit the temple on the first of every month. To display his devotion, he would submit an elephant every month as an offering to Krishna. Hearing these tales, the woman carefully makes her way to the inner precincts with her pouch.
The officers of the Naaduvazhi are clearing people from the path to make way for the ruler. In their powerdrunk arrogance and pettiness, they are unable to distinguish between wayfarers and devotees. Mercilessly they insult devotees and trample on children to get them out of their way. The woman tries to balance her pouch of Manjadikuru so that she doesn’t lose them but the officers insult and mock her and physically shove her out of the area.
The trumpeting of the Naaduvazhi’s elephant is heard. With a last push from the insolent officers, the woman falls down and the pouch falls open and all the red seeds get scattered all over. A tear from the woman’s eye fall on the temple floor.
Immediately the Naaduvazhi’s elephant goes beserk and starts to run amok in the temple. People run for their lives as the mad elephant starts to destroy things within the temple.
Unable to control the elephant, the Naaduvazhi prays to Krishna for a solution. A voice is heard from within the temple – “where is my Manjadikuru?” “where is my devotee, who you have insulted and hurt?” “where is my gift that she lovingly put together?”
Realizing their folly, the people apologize to the woman and start to gather the red seeds that are scattered all over. Filling her pouch for her, she is escorted to the sanctum sanctorum with her lucky red seeds. After her submission of the offering, the elephant returns to normal. In memory of that devotee’s offering, even to this day, a big uruli full of Manjadikuru are kept within the temple.

Yale University School of Medicine has introduced ’ Thoppukaranam ’ by christening it as ‘ Super brain yoga ’.
According to sources ‘ Thoppukaranam ’ activates the acupuncture points at right and left ears thereby activating the right and left brains. Fifteen minutes of ’Thoppukaranam ’ increases the brain power immensely according to sources.
"Topikarnam ' means " Thwabhyam Karna " in Sanskrit " - I listen to your Command ,Oh Lord Ganesha'.
SuperBrain Yoga is a scientifically validated method that will help you energize your brain and enhance its sharpness and clarity. It’s a simple technique which proposes to increase intellectual capacity and sharpen both memory and concentration.
This practice is based on the principles of subtle energy and ear acupuncture. Basically, SuperBrain Yoga allows energy from your lower chakras–or energy centers–to move up to the forehead and crown chakras. When this happens, this energy is transformed into subtle energy, which is utilized by the brain to enhance its proper functioning.
Some of the benefits of SuperBrain Yoga:
1. It energizes and activates the brain by synchronizing Alpha brain waves.
2. It reduces psychological stress and improves psychological stability.
3. It results in greater intelligence and creativity.
4. It promotes proper functioning of the brain.
Best of all, SuperBrain Yoga is really easy to learn and you can do it in just three minutes a day.
SuperBrain Yoga is essentially a form of acupressure and breathing technique used to balance both hemispheres of the brain and bring energy up to the brain. The exercise is easy to learn, takes only a few minutes to do and can be done by almost anyone, anywhere.
It may look goofy at first, but once you realize the benefits of Super Brain Yoga, you will be recommending it to friends and family.
How to Practice Super Brain Yoga:
Step-by-Step Instructions
Ideally, this exercise should be done in the morning. Face the sunrise. This form of yoga should be done in the morning, so that your concentration and stress relief will apply throughout the whole day. Follow these seven steps:
1. Remove all jewelry and stand up straight.
2. Place your tongue on the roof of your mouth right behind your teeth (as if you were about to say “La”). Leave it there throughout the exercise.
3. Take your left hand and cross your upper body to hold of your right earlobe with thumb and forefinger. Make sure that the thumb is in front.
4. Now take your right hand across your upper body to hold of your left earlobe. Again, make sure that the thumb is in front. At this point you’re pressing both earlobes simultaneously. Make sure your left arm is close to your chest and inside your right arm.
5. Inhale through your nose and slowly squat down to the ground.
6. Hold your breath and do not exhale until you start making your way back up to a standing position.
7. Repeat this squatting action between 15 and 21 times. Remember to keep holding your earlobes and to keep your tongue touching the roof of your mouth throughout the entire exercise. You may not notice a change immediately, but after a few weeks an improvement in concentration should become apparent.
Cleansing isn’t about depriving your body of food or nutrients — instead, it is a chance to retrain your palate to acquire a taste for whole foods in their natural state. I strongly believe that eating wholesome, cleansing foods in order to bring your body to an alkaline state will balance your body in a way that will be beneficial for your entire life.
Approaching a cleanse in a healthy way can help you to re-establish a baseline and allow your cells and organs to function at their optimum potential. Cleansing also helps you introduce healthy, organic, and fresh foods to your diet, giving your digestive system a break while purifying your blood.
It is safe to do a one or two day juice fast, if you feel up to it, but it is not necessary. Cleansing is about eating fresh whole foods as the basis of all your meals: eating more salads, drinking more
smoothies , and drinking lots of fresh water throughout the day. At the very least, start your day with a glass of warm water with lemon juice to get the process going — this is the easiest and best thing you can do to start your cleanse today!
Why you need to cleanse and detox
1. Detoxification is a normal process, where your body neutralizes and eliminates toxins through its major organs such as the colon, liver, kidney, lungs, lymphatic system, and skin — our bodies do this every day! But our self-cleansing system can get overloaded by our unhealthy lifestyles and exposure to environmental toxins, and sometimes it can use a little help.
2. There are many factors that contribute to toxicity in the body: processed, packaged foods; outdoor pollution and smog; pollution and harmful chemicals in the home, including in some shampoo, makeup, kitchen and bathroom cleaners, detergents, etc. Most of us come into contact with many of these factors every day.
3. We have limited control over the environment that we are exposed to; however, we have total control over the food we eat and the products we use on our body and in our homes.
4. We are exposed to too many harmful chemicals, through our diet (animal protein, saturated fat, caffeine, alcohol, and sugar) and through the environment. Even if your diet is good, a cleanse can restore your immune system and protect against environmental toxins that pave the way for disease-bearing bacteria, viruses, and parasites.
Signs and symptoms of toxicity
Here are some of the signs that a cleanse may be beneficial to your health:
* Cravings for sugar, salt, starches, bread
* Bloating and a gaseous, distended stomach or lower abdomen
* Acne
* Headaches, stomach aches
* Lethargy, fatigue
* Dry skin and hair, eczema
* Depression
* Irritability
* Constipation, diarrhea (overall irregularity)
* Mood swings
* Lack of concentration
* Weakened immunity
* Weight gain and difficulty losing weight
How to detox your body with a cleanse
You can detox for as little as three days or up to a week. Here are some of the benefits:
* Eliminate stored waste (you may even lose weight!)
* Improved vitality and energy levels right away
* Improved circulation through purifying the liver, kidney, blood
Enhanced mental clarity
* A more regular heartbeat and immune functioning
What needs to be eliminated for maximum results:
* Bleached and refined flours
* Refined sugars (high-fructose corn syrup)
* Table salt
* Trans fats and refined oils (processed corn, canola, sunflower)
* Meats treated with hormones or antibiotics, farmed fish
* Foods sprayed with pesticides and herbicides
* Genetically modified foods and oils
* Dairy products
* Additives and preservatives (nitrates, sulfites, flavourings, and colourings)
* Fast foods, fried foods
* Sodas, juices with added sugar
* Tap water
* Coffee, cigarettes, and alcohol
Krishna Janmashtami is also known as
Krishnashtami , Gokulashtami , Ashtami Rohini ,
Srikrishna Jayanti and Sree Jayanthi .
Devotees, who observe fast on Janmashtami, should have only single meal a day before Janmashtami. On fasting day, devotees take Sankalpa to observe a day long fast and to break it on the next day when both Rohini Nakshatra and
Ashtami Tithi are over. Some devotees break the fast when either Rohini Nakshatra or Ashtami Tithi is over. Sankalpa is taken after finishing morning rituals and the day long fasting begins with Sankalpa.
The time to perform Krishna Puja is during Nishita Kala which is the midnight as per Vedic time-keeping. Devotees perform detailed ritualistic Puja during midnight and it involves all sixteen steps which are part of Shodashopachara Puja Vidhi.
Fasting Rules on Krishna Janmashtami
No grains should be consumed during Janmashtami fasting until the fast is broken on next day after Sunrise. All rules followed during
Ekadashi fasting should be followed during Janmashtami fasting also.
Parana which means breaking the fast should be done at an appropriate time. For Krishna Janmashtami fasting, Parana is done on next day after Sunrise when Ashtami Tithi and Rohini Nakshatra are over. If Ashtami Tithi and Rohini Nakshatra don't get over before Sunset then fast can be broken during day time when either Ashtami Tithi or Rohini Nakshatra is over. When neither Ashtami Tithi nor Rohini Nakshatra is over before Sunset or even Hindu Midnight (also known as Nishita Time) one should wait to get them over before breaking the fast.
Depending on end timing of Ashtami Tithi and Rohini Nakshatra fasting on Krishna Janmashtami might continue for two complete days. Devotees who are not able to follow two days fasting might break the fast on next day after Sunrise. It has been suggested by Hindu religious text
Dharmasindhu .
